Steve Kiene

Steve Kiene is an experienced entrepreneur, leader, senior executive, and strategist with over 20 years of experience in the IT industry. He started his first successful software company when he was 17 and has been an advisor, mentor, and investor in numerous software startups.

Recently he led the long-term strategic objectives and software development efforts at Internap (NASDAQ: INAP) as the Vice President of Engineering. During his tenure he built a new CDN engineering team in Lincoln Nebraska, creating many new high paying jobs in Lincoln. He simultaneously reduced capital expenditures and operating expenses while expanding the global footprint of the division.

Previously, Steve founded eSellerate and MindVision Software. He led the growth and strategic planning for both companies, specializing in software delivery systems and e-commerce solutions. He piloted the successful sale of MindVision and eSellerate to Digital River in 2006.

While CEO at MindVision, he developed two highly successful software products for other companies- Stacker, which was sold to Stac Electronics when Steve was 22 years old and SpeedDoubler, which was developed in partnership with Connectix.

He currently serves on the board of advisors and volunteers as an adjunct instructor at the Raikes School of Computer Science and Management, helping lead the Design Studio learning experience. He established and serves as director of The Kiene Family Foundation which is dedicated to improving lives of all Nebraskans through support of non-profit organizations. The foundation recently announced a gift of $1,000,000 to NET for their Inspire Nebraska campaign.

Patrick Smith, Co-Founder

Patrick Smith

Patrick has spent the last 15 years driving profitability in software and high tech sectors with most recent effort running a business unit as a Group Vice President for Digital River, the world leader in outsourced e-commerce (NASDAQ: DRIV).

Prior to Digital River, Patrick was a member of the Executive Team of MindVision Software and eSellerate focused on revenue growth, client satisfaction, and operations. By applying a proven ability to install sales and revenue growth discipline into technology cultures while maintaining balance between leading edge technology and profitable revenue growth, Patrick was able to grow sales in excess of $80M and ultimately lead the post-acquisition team after the sale of these companies.

Since graduating from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln with a BS B.A. in 1993, Patrick has participated at the executive levels of start-up technology companies and divisions within existing companies like First National Nebraska Inc and First Commerce Technologies, as well VC backed start-ups like eScout, LLC, a provider of B2B marketplace and hosted procurement services.

He is an engaging leader who truly enjoys working to inspire people and growing high quality teams in all areas of a company. He and his wife, Brenna, have lived in Lincoln for 20 years and have three great kids. He enjoys spending time with his family, coaches various youth sports, and tries to save some time for college football and golf as time permits.

Doug Durham, Co-Founder

Doug Durham

Doug Durham is a 20+ year veteran of software engineering and development. Creating complex software systems has been the core of his work experience. He has held a wide variety of software development roles in industries such as aerospace and defense, healthcare practice management, manufacturing and enterprise resource planning, consumer software utilities, ecommerce, consumer web applications, internet network services, content delivery systems, and online video distribution.

Doug’s diverse skills, education, and various leadership opportunities have shaped his career, where he has built many successful teams to solve problems using software. He applies his extensive experience and unique ability to adapt a variety of best practices, patterns, and methodologies to the software development process. Combined with rigorous engineering discipline, these factors are essential to the quality and effectiveness of the teams and products he has developed.

In addition to his civilian career, Doug served in the Air National Guard for 21 years, retiring at the rank of Major in 2006. As a Civil Engineering officer, he performed a variety of roles worldwide in operational, theatre-level engineering resource management. Most recently, he served five months in Afghanistan in 2005 as a Design Engineer in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and was awarded the US Army Commendation medal for his service there.

Doug holds a B.S.E.E. degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and an M.A. in Finance and Management from Webster University in St.Louis, where he graduated with distinction.

Doug was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. He and his wife Shana have lived in Lincoln since 1995, and have three children.
